Public transport in Santiago, Chile

To use the public transport system in Santiago you must buy a “Bip!” card which give access to use Transantiago buses and Metro. The ticket price is around 1,5USD and allows you to take 2 buses and one metro in two hours.

There is another alternative with the “National Student Card” (TNE) with a price of 5USD. Every trip cost 0,35USD, allowing you to save a lot of money.

The “TNE” can be acquired by any regular student who is pursuing an undergraduate degree in higher education. Foreigners must have a Chilean ID to get this card.

Consider that there are deadlines to get the TNE card. It is given only at the begining of each semester.

in case of loss or theft of your TNE, you must present a Police stating constancy, Regular student certificate, Chilean ID and a previows deposit of around 5USD to JUNAEB institution.
